A to Z Challenge – SUPER cross stitch

O is for Oracle

Oracle is from weelittlestitches’ superhero alphabet sampler.

Oracle – you may know her as Barbara Gordon or Batgirl! She is super intelligent, calculating and witty. She utilizes her weapons training even as an information broker, storing a pair of eskrima sticks in her wheelchair armrests.

She’s a hacker with mad skills. Barbara is Batman’s intellectual equal and source of information – retrieving and dispersing information from private satellites, military installations, and government files.

Lovin’ the BAT necklace, Barb!

Barbara has always been a favorite of mine, whether she’s patrolling the streets as Batgirl or overseeing missions as Oracle. She’s powerful and strong, facing adversity and fighting back.

She’s an independent woman, a team leader, and a source of great intelligence. She’s bold and she’s daring, and she’s escaped the Bat’s shadow, much like other members of the Bat family.

Oracle is from fangirl stitches’ girl power superhero comic book alphabet.

Barbara Gordon appears in Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Justice League. In Batman Beyond, Barbara Gordon’s history is a little revised and she’s the grim Police Commissioner.

She appears in The Batman as both a young Batgirl and an adult incarnation using her Oracle identity. Barbara also appears in Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Young Justice.

Love this one! I just read one of Batgirl’s comic books. Seems like a great character.

Thanks! I’ve mostly seen Barbara as Batgirl rather than Oracle, but I did watch the short-lived TV series Birds of Prey, which aired on The WB back in 2002.

I definitely need to head to my local comic book store and ask for some recommendations for Oracle and so many other characters I’ve stitched since this challenge started.

I’m a DC fan, but I have to admit, I don’t know a lot about Oracle. I think maybe the Joker shot her as Batgirl, which is what crippled her. But I could be wrong.

No – that is correct. She was shot and paralyzed in the graphic novel, Batman: The Killing Joke in an attempt to break Commissioner Gordon.
