Nerdy Girl Confession

I made it through the A to Z challenge – I was SUPER worried a couple of times through the past weeks, but I made it to the end!

A-to-Z Reflection [2016]

For those who haven’t been dropping in on my nerdy little spot here, I decided to stitch some SUPERheroes, specifically weelittlestitches’ superhero alphabet sampler and fangirl stitches’ girl power superhero comic book alphabet.

avengers.earths.mightiest.heroes.season.01.episode.07.screenshot.27Sharing each character to represent the letter of the day, I not only stitched the corresponding characters – I shared some of my personal thoughts and knowledge along with any research that I had about those characters.

For me, this challenge was tough – it was a SUPER challenge. I may have bitten off a little more than I could chew with the ambitious choice of two alphabet cross stitch patterns. It was rough sometimes, especially when I work on a third-shift schedule.

avengers.earths.mightiest.heroes.season.01.episode.24.screenshot.27I’m not a regular blogger anymore – ever since I finished college, blogging has fallen on the back-burner.

So posting everyday was SUPER challenging with working at night and sleeping in the afternoons – but I managed to post every day for each letter. SUPER proud!

It was intense at times when I was feeling the pressure of stitching and blogging on the same day. I tried to manage my time the best I could, but everybody has their off-days when you just don’t feel like stitching or writing.

the.batman.season.04.episode.10.screenshot.26It was exhausting, and to be completely honest, I’ll be putting the girl power alphabet down for a bit before I even start detailing it with backstitches and french knots.

I’ll definitely be taking a step back from the blog for a bit, but I’ve definitely been feeling the rush and satisfaction of posting on the regular.

Hopefully, I come back sooner than two years, which was the length of my last hiatus here at Nerdy Girl – I definitely have some future SUPER posts in mind!

Through the challenge, I met some amazing bloggers and fellow stitchers. I actually communicated with one of the pattern designers, which is SUPER exciting because I’m a big fan of her cross stitch patterns. I met some fellow SUPERhero fans too!

the.batman.season.03.episode.02.screenshot.15I admit that I didn’t check out as many blogs as I had planned, but I found some real gems out there.

I even shared some with my (cross stitching) mother, who found the entire challenge SUPER inspiring.

Will I do the challenge again next year? (SUPER) Hell yeah!

I’ve actually thought of possible topics, but I’m not sure if I’ll stitch the alphabet (or multiple alphabets) next time around. I’m really into animation (if you hadn’t figured that out with my challenge posts) in all its forms, and I’m leaning toward some topics that might spotlight animated series and movies.

Nerdy Girl out!

A to Z Challenge – SUPER cross stitch

K is for Kilowog

Kilowog is from weelittlestitches’ superhero alphabet sampler.

Hey poozers, it’s Kilowog! He’s a member of the Green Lantern Corps – the primary trainer of the Corps’ newest recruits.

He actually acted as the first trainer to a young Hal Jordan.

He’s always seemed to be a tough guy, but Kilowog definitely has a soft center when it comes to his friends and the Corps – he’s molding the future of the Corps, training the new recruits.

Kilowog appears in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. He appears in the television series Batman: The Brave and the Bold. He is a main character in the short-lived Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

Kilowog also appears in the DC original animated films Green Lantern: First Flight and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

K is for Kim Possible

Kim Possible is from fangirl stitches’ girl power superhero comic book alphabet.

Call her, beep her, if ya wanna reach her – Kim Possible is a teenage crime-fighter, dealing with school, family, and saving the world.

I loved Kim Possible – she was a teenager when I was a teenager. Her animated series was light-hearted and action-oriented, and she was living the life of a teenage (secret) agent.

Her villains were spastic and hilarious – another nod to the spy genre.

She and her clumsy but lovable sidekick, Ron Stoppable, fought various antagonists throughout the series’ run, but most often they tangled with Doctor Drakken and his henchwoman Shego.

Shego was a worthy adversary against Kim, but Drakken was more bumbling scientist than a physical threat.

Kim Possible was the second animated Disney Channel original series, broadcasting from 2002 to 2007 with four seasons and two feature films.

E is for Elektra

IMG_2350_RESIZE_CROP

Elektra is from weelittlestitches’ superhero alphabet sampler.

Elektra is a highly trained assassin of Greek descent who wields a pair of bladed sai. She is a love interest of the superhero Daredevil.

She is the lethal scarlet assassin, renowned as being the greatest assassin in the world. She’s known as Daredevil’s most fearsome enemy as well as his former lover.

Sadly, she has not appeared in any animated Marvel series. However, she appears in the second season of Daredevil on Netflix.

I have yet to binge-watch the season since it premiered in March, and I have been avoiding spoilers as best as I can – but I am definitely excited to see Elodie Yung’s portrayal of the assassin.

E is for Elastigirl

Elastigirl is from fangirl stitches’ girl power superhero comic book alphabet.

Elastigirl is the mother of the Parr family – the Incredibles. She once was a lone superheroine until she married Mr. Incredible.

I’m flexible.

After disposing of her tights because the government forced “supers” into relocation programs, Helen Parr, formerly known as Elastigirl, lives as a suburban housewife with her super-powered husband and their three kids.

I love her sassy, no nonsense attitude and her utter devotion to her family!

She wears this particular suit when she and her family travel to rescue her husband from the supervillain Syndrome.

The family business is SUPER!

Elastigirl is still a superhero, but she’s a mother first now. And that is awesome!
